Fall is in the air here in New England and it honestly, it’s one of the best seasons here. The colorful leaves and beautiful weather attracts many people from all over the country. We went to our local apple orchard a couple weekends ago to go apple picking so we could make apple crisp. Apple crisp is one of our Fall favorites so we made a no-sugar added version (recipe coming soon) and of course, one loaded with sugar. My dad, husband and grandfather are diabetics so we always try to make sweets with minimal sugar for them. It’s not always easy but we try.
INGREDIENTS
Apple Filling:
- 5 large apples peeled and chopped into cubes or slices
- ½ stick butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp half n half (or milk)
- 1 tsp vanillaextract
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- pinch of salt
- Crumb Topping:
- ½ cup flour
- ½ cup old fashioned oats
- ½ cup brown sugar
